How to Choose the Right Carpet for Your Bedroom
The type of flooring we choose for a room can have a profound impact on the way it makes us feel.
While wooden flooring offers some fantastic practical benefits for high-traffic areas such as kitchens and living rooms, it doesn’t quite offer that same warmth and cosiness that carpet does when it comes to your bedroom.
And given that a bedroom is a relatively low-traffic area of the home, you have more of a license to indulge in something plush and luxurious.
But what sort of carpet should you choose?
There are dozens of different styles, colours and pile types out there on the market, and making the right choice for you isn’t always easy.
But don’t worry, we’re here to help with all that.
How to choose the right colour for your carpet
Let’s start with colour because, in our opinion, it’s the most important feature of your carpet.
In order to work out what colour you would like the carpet to be, first, you need to look at the room’s current colour theme. Look at the walls, the window dressings, the furniture, even the colour of your bed linen – what do you see?
If you’ve noticed a particular theme, then you want to choose a colour for your carpet that compliments it, without overpowering it.
For example, if the colours around your room vary from white, to beige, to grey, you might want to consider a warm brown colour for your carpet.
How to choose the right material for your carpet
When choosing the material for your carpet, you have a number of different options, but these are the most popular:
- Wool
- Nylon
- Wool-nylon blend
- Wool-silk blend
Out of all of these options, we don’t think you can beat the simple luxury of a pure wool carpet.
Soft underfoot, sustainable and insulating, wool is a fantastic choice for your carpet and, if properly maintained, it’s aesthetic will only improve with time.
With all that said, some great strides have been made recently with nylon carpets.
They are now softer than they’ve ever been, and on top of this, they’re also significantly cheaper, hardwearing and even stain-resistant.
So, if you’re looking for a more practical option, then a nylon carpet is a great choice.
Of course, if you want the best of both worlds, then a wool-nylon blend would do the trick!
You will get the natural look and feel of wool with some of the synthetic carpet’s hardwearing properties. It’s a win-win.
Pile height and density
Now we’re getting into the finer details that a lot of customers might not even pay attention to, but that doesn’t make them any less important.
If you’re looking for maximum luxury and cosiness, then we would recommend going for a long, plush pile carpet.
However, if you are more practically minded, or you have pets that you know will end up roaming around your bedroom, you’re probably better off going for a shorter, tighter pile, as such carpets tend to be much more hardwearing.
